The Jefferson Cup continues to bring together teams from across the country and around the world, and this year’s showcase will feature a special international addition. Traveling from Jamaica, the Excelsior High School Eagles are set to arrive in Richmond on March 25, ready to compete in one of the nation’s premier youth tournaments.
Their participation marks an exciting milestone for the event. The Eagles become just the second team from Jamaica to compete in the Jefferson Cup, following the Ballaz Academy U11 Boys who made their appearance in 2025. Even more notably, Excelsior High School is the first Jamaican high school team to take part in the Jefferson Cup Showcase, adding a new chapter to the tournament’s growing international reach.
This group brings more than just talent. It brings years of chemistry and shared experience. Nearly 70 percent of the roster has been playing together since the age of 12, forming a tight-knit unit that understands each other on and off the field. That continuity is expected to be a key strength as they face high-level competition throughout the weekend.
Several players have already made their mark on the international stage. Rojawn Small and Andeano Walters have both represented Jamaica at the U15 level, while Damarley Williams has competed with the Jamaica U17 national team. Jamari Gordon has also earned recognition as a Jamaica U20 invitee, further highlighting the quality within this squad.
While the Eagles arrive with the goal of competing at a high level, the trip is about more than just results. The team is eager to experience the culture and community of Richmond while also taking advantage of the exposure the Jefferson Cup provides. With college coaches from across the country in attendance, the showcase presents a valuable opportunity for players to be seen and evaluated at the next level.
The Eagles will kick off their Jefferson Cup campaign on March 27 with an early morning matchup against LVU Rush ECNL RL B08/07 at Stratton Park. They return to the field on March 28 to face Medford Strikers Academy 2007 Boys at Ukrop Park, before wrapping up group play on March 29 against Bethesda NAL 2007/08.
As they make the journey from Jamaica to Richmond, the Excelsior High School Eagles carry with them pride, experience, and ambition.
